Frequently Asked Questions

Where in Reno is Arthur Murray® Dance Studio located?

The studio is located just off I-580 at the Mill Street exit. Arthur Murray® shares the parking lot with the QUIKSTOP gas station on the corner of Mill Street and Terminal Way. Pull into the gas station as if you are going to get gas and then drive right past the gas pumps. Then you will see our front door with the red and blue neon open sign and white lettering on the the window.  Even though our address is Mill Street, our front door faces Terminal Way and the mini-mart of the QuikStop.

Which days & times are lessons available?

The studio is open Monday through Friday from 12:30pm to 9pm and Saturday from 10:30am to 4:30pm by appointment.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

Comfortable! Comfortable shoes that stay on your feet is the name of the game in learning to dance.

What should I wear?

Your instructor will be wearing a shirt and tie, a dress, or slacks and a blouse.  Some of our students come to the studio straight from work wearing suits and dresses and some come in more casual wearing jeans, t-shirts and shorts. The most important thing is that you are comfortable and not distracted by your clothing.

What kind of dances can I learn?

We teach everything that you can do with a partner on the dance floor where there is leading and following involved! Ballroom, Latin, Country, Swing, Salsa and Social Dancing. Please see our Dances We Teach page for a more detailed list.

Do I have to have a partner to learn to dance?

Nope!  Whether you plan to learn to dance with someone else or dancing is a skill to learn just for you - Arthur Murray® is the way to go.

Is dancing easy to learn?

Absolutely! Arthur Murray® uses a unique, time-tested approach to learning that makes it fast, fun and easy to learn a variety of dances in a short amount of time.

Should I learn more than one dance?

Wherever you go out dancing, they are going to play more than one type of dance. The salsa club, for instance, will play everything from salsa to bachata, merengue and cha cha. All dances have the same concepts involved, so there are great benefits to learning more than one dance at a time. The Arthur Murray® Interrelated System makes this easy by teaching you how to use one step in multiple dances.

How much do lessons cost?

Tuition varies, depending on a number of factors, for example, how good you want to be, what dances you want to learn, and your dance schedule. After your introductory sample lesson, your instructor will recommend a program and will be able to answer any questions, so you will have the knowledge to make an informed choice. Sign up for your sample lesson today!

What are the benefits of taking dance lessons?

Dancing is our first line of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality, and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a superb physical conditioner — providing fun without working at it. It opens up a wonderful new world of togetherness and a thriving year-round social calendar! For specific details, see our Benefits Page.

What if I need to change my lesson time?

We have a 24 hour rescheduling policy so the teachers are able to give that valuable time to another student. Should you have to cancel with short notice, we are flexible, allowing you to reschedule within the week at no charge. Just give us a call as soon as you know you need to reschedule your dance lesson and we will take care of the rest.

Can I really learn to dance?

Yes. Dancing is as easy as walking once you are taught how by an Arthur Murray® expert. We teach simple, basic elements, from which the steps are derived. Hundreds of thousands of people have been successfully trained in Arthur Murray® Dance Studios. There is no age limit. Our oldest students are over 80.
